?? Job Title: Payroll Specialist - Temp to Hire
Location: Sacramento, CA
Schedule: Monday - Friday | Full-Time | Onsite or Hybrid (depending on client)
Pay Rate: $30 - $35 per hour (DOE)
Our client is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Payroll Specialist to join their team on a temp-to-hire basis. This individual will be responsible for processing multi-state payroll, maintaining accurate employee records, and ensuring compliance with all federal and state payroll regulations. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment and demonstrate strong accuracy, confidentiality, and problem-solving skills.
Process biweekly and/or weekly payroll for hourly and salaried employees
Maintain and update employee payroll records and tax information
Verify timecards, deductions, benefits, and garnishments
Prepare and submit payroll tax filings and related reports
Assist with reconciliations of payroll accounts and general ledger entries
Ensure compliance with state and federal labor laws and company policies
Serve as a main point of contact for payroll-related inquiries
Support HR with onboarding and offboarding payroll processes
Collaborate with Accounting on month-end and year-end payroll close
3-5 years of payroll processing experience, preferably in a multi-state environment
Proficiency with ADP, Paychex, Paylocity, or similar payroll software
Strong understanding of payroll tax laws, wage/hour laws, and reporting
Intermediate to advanced Excel skills (v-lookups, pivots preferred)
Excellent attention to detail, accuracy, and time management
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Experience in construction, manufacturing, or professional services industries a plus
